2026 Municipal Elections

The 2026 Municipal Election will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026. In Oak Bay, voters will elect one mayor, six councillors, and one school trustee for the Oak Bay Trustee Electoral Area, which matches Oak Bay’s municipal boundaries.

Key Election Dates

  • General Voting Day: Saturday, October 17, 2026

  • Advance Voting: Wednesday, October 7 and Wednesday, October 14, 2026

  • Nomination period opens: September 1, 2026

  • Candidate nominations close: September 11, 2026

Why This Election Matters

Oak Bay has seen significant change in recent years, and local government decisions continue to shape housing, transportation, climate action, livability, infrastructure, and the overall character of the community. This election will help determine who is around the table making those decisions for the next four years. OBNN encourages all residents to stay informed, learn about the candidates, and make a plan to vote.

Thinking of Running for Office?

To run for office in the 2026 local election, you must:

  • be 18 years of age or older on general voting day

  • be a Canadian citizen

  • have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before filing nomination documents

  • not be disqualified under the Local Government Act or other applicable law.

Campaign expense limits for the 2026 General Local Elections are to be published by May 31, 2026. Elections BC also provides candidate guides, forms, training, and additional information about campaign financing and election advertising rules.
